SRI LANKA TEA BOARD

Sri Lanka Tea Board is the apex government body responsible for development of Sri Lanka tea industry and promotion of Ceylon Tea globally. Sri Lanka produces one of the best quality teas in the world called Ceylon Tea which is the most sought after tea by the tea connoisseurs around the globe. The country produces over 250 million of kilos of tea per annum which consist of Orthodox Black Tea, CTC Tea, Green Tea, Organic Teas, Artisanal Teas, RTDs etc and exports to over 150 destinations around the world in different forms of packaging. Ceylon Tea comes from seven agro-climatic regions of Sri Lanka namely Nuwara Eliya, Uda Pussellawa, Dimbula, Uva, Kandy, Sabaragamuwa and Ruhuna. The tea produced in these regions give completely different tea experience for the tea lovers as each region has its own tea characters in connection with its color, aroma, flavor and strength as result of the diverse soil and climatic condition in each region. In the basket of Ceylon Tea, over 30 tea grades are available to meet the different global tea requirement of overseas buyers. Sri Lanka Tea Board has taken many steps to ensure that all teas produced and exported from Sri Lanka adhere to the minimum quality standards of ISO 3720. The promotion of Ceylon tea linked to the Lion Logo the symbol of quality, which is the trademark of the Sri Lanka Tea Board. Sri Lanka Tea Board has been working towards to obtain the status of Geographical Indication for Ceylon Tea to gain more protection for the Ceylon Tea in the competitive global tea market condition while ensuring the opportunity for the tea lovers to enjoy genuine Ceylon tea cup. Sri Lanka Tea Board implements a number of quality control systems at tea production and factory levels and at the points of pre-auction and pre-shipment levels in order to safeguard the quality image of the product. The Analytical Laboratory of the Board carries out analytical tests as a service in order to maintain the minimum quality standards of tea.
